Why quitting your job now?
There is definitely a new trend – called “The Great Resignation” – that has brought millions of people quitting their job in the last few months for other opportunities. This new trend brings up different interesting topics.
The first one is about how the Pandemic allowed time to think if our job was right for us. In a way Covid has changed our mindset, like we really value our time now. What is interesting tough is that people are re-thinking their entire life all together.
Many have been thinking what work means to them and how they want to spend their time moving forward. In a year where many lost their jobs, others changed their career paths, launched their own companies, quit to take time to rest and think about the next move, quit to relocate or left the workforce altogether.
There is not one specific reason, but we are all burned out and willing to reexamine how we want to live our lives from now on.
Most of all, we want flexibility that usually means a different schedule or the ability to work from home. Mostly though we want to take back control over our work lives.
If we change the point of view and look at this trend from the company standpoint, the change is pretty stunning. Any candidate will now evaluate the job offer not necessarily against another offer or the counter-offer from their current company. The company is now competing with raising a family, taking care of an elderly parent, leisure time, and new attitudes about what’s important in life. This scenario will require a new approach to recruiting and definitely a different approach in terms of offer and benefits.
